The Alabama Historical Commission will publicly dedicate an access site at Old Cahawba Archaeological Park, making it among 14 other sites to have an officially designated access point during April.

Termed the Blueway access site, it was developed by the University of Alabama Center for Economic Development and its partners “to enhance public awareness of the river as a recreational destination” as well as to provide information on safely navigating the river.

“Flowing from the City of Trussville, just northeast of Birmingham, to Old Cahawba Archaeological Park west of Selma, the Cahaba River connects 10 municipalities and six counties along its 200-mile course,” said the Alabama Historical Commission in a press release.

“It is among the most biologically diverse and scenic rivers in North America and is an outstanding natural asset that has significant potential to enhance quality of life in nearby communities and to generate economic development through recreational and nature-based tourism.”

The dedication will take place on April 15 at 1 p.m. at the park. For more information, visit cahabablueway.org.
