The body of a man who went missing on Sunday in the Tombigbee River in Sumter County was found by authorities on Monday morning.

According to a statement from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) Damond E. Driggers, 48, of Millry, was operating a 17-ft Aluminum Excel duck boat when he fell overboard and never resurfaced.

"Driggers was not using an emergency cutoff switch and was also not wearing a personal flotation device (PFD) when the incident occurred," said the statement.

A search was conducted until it was later called off and then resumed on Monday. At around 8:10 a.m. Driggers was found near the spot where he went missing.

In the statement ALEA recognized the efforts of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and volunteers who assisted in the search.
