Christmas is an exciting time in the Black Belt.

Here is a schedule of events to recognize the holiday seasons in counties throughout the Black Belt. Send your event to be included to news@blackbeltnewsnetwork.com

Selma Housing Authority (SHA) will hold Holiday Toy Drive for the children of its residents through Dec. 17. The drop-off location is 444 Washington Street. Times are Monday–Thursday at 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Toys are intended for children of ages three to 12 and will be distributed on Monday, Dec. 23. 

December 2-14

46th Annual Holiday House hosted by the Selma-Dallas County Historical Preservation Society will be held at Minnie Sue's Cottage on McLeod Avenue in Selma. It is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. except Sunday when it is open 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Go here for more information.

December 5

The Selma-Dallas County Public library presents "Haul Out the Holly," a community greenery workshop. Come enjoy festival fellowship and make a seasonal wreath. Drop in between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Wilcox Area Chamber of Commerce hosts "Christmas in Camden" from 5:30-8 p.m. in downtown Camden for a night with Santa Claus, kids activities, shopping, vendors, food, entertainment and more. Shops will be open after hours. To be a vendor, email ChristmasInCamdenWACC@gmail.com.

Demopolis Public Library hosts Pictures with Santa at 5:30 p.m.

Grove Hill hosts its Christmas parade at 4:30 p.m. with the theme of "Merry and Bright" and will follow the route along Jackson Street. It will be followed by a tree lighting ceremony at the Clarke County Courthouse on 114 Court Street. Following the lighting, the Clarke County Historical Museum will host a showing of the film "A Muppet Christmas Carol." Participants are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets. 

December 6

Marengo County Historical Society hosts Christmas in the Canebrake: Parlors and Trees from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. as part of Christmas on the River events. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased online or at the Canebrake Craft Corner next to Bluff Hall at 407 N Commissioners Ave., Demopolis. It is open Tuesday - Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. or call 334.289.9644.

Selma Roots, a community nonprofit store in Selma, hosts a holiday open house Dec. 6-8 with a debut of their new Selma Roots coffee that is brewed by Revival Coffee Company in Selma,  free coffee, hot cider, cocoa, and cookies as well as free photos with Santa on Saturday from 1-3 p.m. The store will be open on Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m

December 7 

Christmas, Crafts, and Cookies at Cahawba: Saturday, December 7, 2024 10am – 11am. Come join us for this hands-on activity making Christmas ornaments as we learn about yuletide celebrations at the historic town of Cahawba. We will also have hot cocoa and cookies to get us into the Christmas spirit. ($8)

Gallery 905 in Selma hosts Cookies with Santa and ornament workshop at 10 a.m. Cost is $20. Sign up at artsrevive.com.

The 53rd annual Christmas on the River Gala will be from 6 p.m. – midnight at Demopolis Civic Center. Watch the Nautical Parade and fireworks and the URI Band. Semi-formal attire requested. Tickets are $75 and available at the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce.

Cherokee Baptist Association and CHOICE will give out Christmas backpacks for children and teens from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at CHOICE Center in Uniontown. Event includes food, games, music and more. Register children or get more information at 334-231-7019 or email center@choiceuniontown.org.

Jingle Bell Bash in Selma features breakfast with Santa, face painting, games will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Legacy & Lyrics, 104 Broad Street. Tickets are $10.

Pine Hill hosts their annual Christmas Parade themed "Light up the Night" at 5 p.m.

December 8

City of Selma hosts its annual Christmas parade at 4 p.m. downtown with a "Let Your Light Shine" theme. Registration is now open here. For more information, call 334-876-1239 or email development@selma-al.gov.  

Sumac Cottage in Greensboro offers Holiday Market and open house from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is in conjunction with the 2024 Porches and Parlors tour in historic Greensboro, which will be held from 1-5 p.m.

The City of Livingston will host its 7th Annual Christmas on the Square event in the downtown area starting at 1:30 p.m. The event will feature vendors, inflatables for kids, a showing of "The Polar Express" at the UWA Cinema with free entry, and live music from Sadie McClendon. Downtown stores and restaurants will be open with specials and there will be a performance from the UCS band at the Bored Well.

December 9

Linden's annual Chilly Fest has a deadline of entering the Christmas house decoration contest. It will be judged on Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. Find more information here. Winners receive cash prizes. Sign up at Linden City Hall on North Main Street.

December 14

City of Marion presents Christmas in the Square with its Christmas parade at 5 p.m. Those wanting to enter a float and be a vendor can register at City Hall on Jefferson Street. 

December 15

Meet Santa (and the Grinch) at Valley Grande Walking Trail from 2-4 p.m. in this City of Valley Grande event.
