As an African American, traveling through Lowndes County often, something I wonder if the existing population really understands civil rights or just their twisted angle of what it should be. I remember well during the summer of 2021, while driving through Hayneville, I stopped to purchase a watermelon from a local farmer, he was parked alongside of the road, you can see the County courthouse across the street, the vendor/farmer, an African American man in his 60s or 70s ask me "red or orange", ask what's the difference, he continued with an abrupt loud tone, "red or orange", I just said red, attempted to tip the farmer, and his comment was so off the handle, whereas he claimed it was not on the up and up. I looked at this farmer and it became very obvious he did not like me being married to White woman; my wife was in the car, and she was puzzled by his disposition, especially since we just met, I will never purchase a melon again from this farmer, even if he had the only watermelons left on this earth. Obviously, the farmers, a complete jerk, has no clue or appreciation what civil rights of civil rights.
