Sheyann Webb-Christburg, a foot soldier of the Civil Rights Movement, will be honored at the Selma the Musical performance at the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre tomorrow.
According to a press release from the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), Webb-Christburg was the youngest foot soldier to walk during the Selma to Montgomery March leading to the passage of the Voting Rights Act.
The performance will be held at the Civil Rights Memorial Center, a program of the SPLC.
“The CRMC is proud to recognize this shining example of how young social justice advocates can make a difference throughout their lifetime,” said Tafeni English-Relf, director of the SPLC’s Alabama State Office. “Honoring Sheyann Webb-Christburg during the debut of Selma the Musical will bring the evening full circle.”
She co-authored “Selma, Lord, Selma: Girlhood Memories of the Civil Rights Days," an account of her role in integrating with an all-white school.
