Akron Mayor Christopher Rollins and Congresswoman Terri Sewell are hosting a community conversation on Tuesday about the closure of Akron's post office.

The meeting will be at 12:30 p.m. in Akron City Hall at 207 1st Ave S.

The US Post Office said in a statement on Monday that the lease was not renewed at the current building and gave Oct. 31 as the closing date.

Until the end of October, the post office staff is operating out of a mobile unit.

After closure, services will be moved to the Moundville Post Office starting Nov. 1.

Akron residents on Oct. 1 started a change.org petition asking USPS to keep a post office operating in Akron. As of Oct. 20, it had 191 signatures.
