More than a year after the U.S. Attorney’s Office came to Selma armed with a $1 million grant to combat crime that had run rampant across Dallas County, statistics show efforts are paying off. 

Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum says major crimes, such as are homicide, rape and robbery, are down 65 percent during the same three months from 2018 to 2019.  

Selma City Police Chief Kenta Fulford reported a 55 percent drop in total crime the same period and described the reduction in all the categories of crime as “dramatic.”  

Granthum and Fulford attribute the reduction to the Weed and Seed grant they received from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in October 2019.
