The Ellwood Christian Academy Eagles hosted the West Blocton Tigers on Tuesday evening for boys and girls basketball play.
The Lady Eagles have already made school history by opening the season with two wins under their belt. The Lady Eagles continued to strive as they defeated the Lady Tigers 53-29 to secure another victory. Latavia Williams led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 30 points and 16 rebounds. Zyha Marshall added 14 points and 20 rebounds. K. Calhoun led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 14 points.
The Lady Eagles head coach Christy Harris stated, “Tonight’s game was a success. We moved slow and off beat for a moment in the first half, but we regained ourselves and started moving on the transitions. I love that they played together and had fun while doing so. We still have some work to do, to fix small mistakes and get in some more shape, but overall I’m proud of them. We beat a team that beat them by 2 last season at home so to take this win by 24 I’m super proud. It shows them that they can win and overcome anything if they play together and trust themselves and myself as a coach.”
The Eagles boys team fell short as the Tigers won 61-26. X. Franklin led the Eagles in scoring with 12 points. B. Morton led the Tigers with 19 points.
Ellwood will play again this Thursday night at 5 p.m. on the road against Marengo High School.
