The Keith High School Lady Bears traveled to Uniontown on Monday evening to face the A.L. Johnson Lady Eagles in the first round of the Class 1A Area 5 tournament.
The Lady Bears came out with a game plan and they stuck to it. The Lady Bears defeated the Lady Eagles 58-40 to advance to play for the area championship.
J. Moore led the Lady Bears in scoring with 24 points. J. Atkins finished with 13 points and S. Moore added 11 points. C. Pope led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 12 points. N. Pope finished with 11 points.
The Lady Bears head coach, Cecil Williams, stated, “The girls started the game almost perfect in the first quarter. We played defense well and offensively we moved the ball and made good decisions and shots. I think a tired bug bit us in the second quarter because we went backwards, but we held it together to finish strong.”
The Keith Lady Bears will play the R.C. Hatch Bobcats for the Class 1A area 5 championship on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. at R.C. Hatch High School.
