The founder of a foster care building in Selma is asking for help in getting it reopened so that he can shelter children in need.Â
According to WSFA, the building was once owned by Alabama Teen Challenge but was "God's Miracle Ranch" under its owner, Donald Shumate.Â
Alabama Teen Challenge was recently forced to close but Shumate is seeking to get the funds to reopen it. It would take $594,000 to do so, he said.Â
Shumate and his wife reportedly fostered 49 children during the 25-year history of the building before it was eventually turned over to Alabama Teen Challenge.Â
He stated that if he were able to open the building again he would immediately take in children for shelter and mentoring.Â
Those who wish to help financially may do so by donating to an account at Marion Community Bank under Cornerstone Church.
