Yard toilets as fundraiser

Friends of the Old School in Demopolis is hosting a "You Got Flushed" fundraiser.

Demopolis residents may have noticed decorated toilets in yards across the city in recent weeks.

It is not a renovation-job-gone-bad. It is a fundraiser for the Friends of the Old School in Demopolis to renovate the historic building on Main Street in downtown Demopolis.

Friends of the Old School is charging $25 to put a decorated toilet and "You Got Flushed" sign in a friend's yard and another $25 for it to be removed and sent to another yard.

A second fundraiser is coming Nov 8. It is the annual Santa photos with family that will be held from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Old School building.

Friends of the Old School includes representatives of the Canebrake Players, Two Rivers Arts Council, Marengo County Historical Society, Marengo County History and Archives Museum, and neighboring residents.

The group has raised funds over the last year since getting the Demopolis City Council to forego using it as apartments and keep it as an arts center. The Canebrake Players theater is also housed there.
