A new law office is opening in Camden, said an announcement from Harvesters of Hope, a nonprofit that seeks to provide more legal aid to underserved areas in Alabama.

It is hoped that the Law Office of Diana Cannon Wilson will be the first of "many" practices throughout the state in the near future, said the announcement.

“I look forward to providing legal services to the people of Wilcox County and other communities in Southwest Alabama,” said Wilson.

Her educational background includes Alabama Southern Community College, a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Faulkner University, and a Juris Doctorate from Miles College School of Law.

“Through our year of research and planning, the Alabama State Bar concluded that communities like Camden are great places to live, work, and raise a family," said Tom Perry, immediate past president of the Alabama State Bar.

"These areas need lawyers to handle a wide range of legal services -- civil cases, criminal defense, landlord-tenant matters, real estate, wills, estates, and more. Without lawyers like Diana Wilson, citizens are left without adequate representation, which undermines both access to justice and the economic vitality of these communities.”

The grand opening is set for Oct. 10.
