Leadership teams from the Historically Black Community Colleges (HBCCs) and Predominately Black Community Colleges (PBCCs) Network met at Lawson State University to discuss supporting students.

The event was hosted by Alabama Possible and Complete College America. The network is made up of: Drake State, Gadsden State, Lawson State, Shelton State, Wallace State-Selma, Chattahoochee Valley, Trenholm State and Bishop State Community colleges.

“The Alabama Community College System is committed to meeting the educational and workforce needs of all citizens in Alabama," said Chancellor Jimmy Baker, Alabama Community College System.

"The development of the Historically Black and Predominately Black Community College Network supports and strengthens our efforts to make community colleges in Alabama a place where all students can have a strong start and finish."

Speakers talked credential and degree pathways and addressing student basic needs.

“It is student-centric networks like the HBCC/PBCC Network that will further our state’s ability to remove barriers to prosperity by providing multiple pathways to credentials and degrees that lead to careers with livable wages," Chandra Scott, executive director for Alabama Possible. "This is how we end generational poverty in Alabama.”
