Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded $243,850 from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) to seven domestic abuse victim advocacy agencies, including several that serve the Black Belt region.
“These grants will help non-profit organizations provide a wide range of vital services to the victims of many devastating crimes,” Ivey said in an online announcement. “I commend these agencies for providing prompt professional assistance to people in their time of need.”
These agencies are:
Domestic Violence Intervention Center serving Chambers, Lee, Macon, Randolph, Russell and Tallapoosa counties will use $28,000 for a 24-hour crisis line, an emergency shelter and case management for victims.
Columbus Alliance for Battered Women Inc., also known as Hope Harbour, in Russell County will use $13,350 grant to fund the Community Outreach Program offering crisis intervention and support services to domestic violence victims.
SAN Inc., also known as Turning Point, receives $39,500 for a shelter, counseling and advocacy for sexual assault and domestic violence victims in Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Marengo, Pickens, Sumter and Tuscaloosa counties.
“These community-based centers offer a lifeline to people in situations of crisis,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “ADECA joins Gov. Ivey in support of these facilities in their mission to help victims heal and move forward with their lives.”
