Gov. Kay Ivey has signed an executive order that authorizes the Alabama Rural Health Transformation Advisory Group to advise her ahead of Alabama’s Rural Health Transformation Program (ARHTP) to be implemented in January.

“The creation of the Rural Health Transformation Advisory Group enables Alabama to hit the ground running once the state’s new comprehensive rural healthcare strategy is greenlighted by the Trump Administration,” she said in an announcement.

“The members of this group will help ensure our programs initiate positive transformations to the way Alabamians receive quality healthcare and that those transformative investments and policies are sustainable.”

The group will consist of selected senators and members of the house of representatives along with the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) and the chief of its Federal Initiatives and Recreation Division.

Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter, Senate Pro Tem Garlan Gudger, Senator Greg Albritton, Senator Clyde Chambliss, Senator Donnie Chesteen, Senator Bobby Singleton, Representative Anthony Daniels, Representative Jamie Kiel, Representative Rex Reynolds and Representative Pebblin Warren will serve in the group.

Ivey's announcement stated that the so called One Big Beautiful Bill Act includes a multi-year, $50 billion federal Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) to help rural areas with healthcare needs.

In early November she announced that a plan for Alabama in the RHTP was submitted to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
