Leaders of Jackson Hospital recently reached out to Montgomery county and city officials to consider passing a new ad valorem tax to help the hospital stay open even.

Even though a "verbal agreement" was reached with Blue Cros Blue Shield (BCBS) and it was announced that the hospital would not close for the time being it still faces financial troubles.

According to WSFA a letter was sent to Montgomery county and city officials to request that they consider pledging an additional $4.2 million and to pass an ad valorem tax to fund the hospital.

If passed the county would contribute at least 70% of the revenue beginning in 2029 to a county health authority that would be used for Jackson Hospital for three years.

Afterwards Jackson would be the beneficiary of "an equitable portion" of the revenue to the authority that would determine the amount. Another stipulation would be that city and county taxes owed by Jackson would be abated for 10 years.
