Charges against Lowndes County Sheriff Christopher West for harassment and obstructing government operation have been dismissed.

Attorney Richard Rice, who represented West, said on July 12 that Judge Kameisha L. Logan dismissed the charges filed by the town of Hayneville against the sheriff.

The dismissal comes nearly a year after the 2024 disagreement between Lowndes County Commissioner Robert Harris and West over relocating investigators in the sheriff's department to the former Hayneville Town Hall.

The original judge in the case, Fred F. Bell, had dismissed the harassment charge on November 14, 2024, and the obstruction charge on December 11, 2024.

But Harris got a second warrant for West's arrest in February 2025 from a magistrate in another jurisdiction, which was dismissed on July 12.
