Jackson Hospital

A judge heard arguments from representatives of Jackson Hospital and the Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) of Alabama over his jurisdiction in the hospital's litigation concerning reimbursement rates.

According to WSFA, Judge Christopher Hawkins stated that he would rule within 24 hours on whether or not he had the jurisdiction. If so, an emergency injunction ruling may be made.

The Board of Directors at Jackson Hospital have said that if a deal with BCBS to provide funding is not reached by June 25 they would be forced to begin closing.

The hospital filed a lawsuit claiming that $1.4 million is being withheld.

This is the latest in an ongoing financial crisis that Jackson Hospital has been facing in recent months, though several agencies have pledged support such as the City of Montgomery and the Montgomery County Commission.

The state has also said that funds would be provided on the condition that Jackson Hospital emerges out of bankruptcy.
