Man sentenced to nine years for detonating bomb outside Attorney General's office

Kyle Calvert, who was arrested in April in connection with a bomb that exploded outside the office of Attorney General Steve Marshall, has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison. 

“This prosecution would not have been possible if not for the coordinated efforts of numerous federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Kevin Davidson. “Working together, investigators and analysts were able to identify Calvert as a suspect and ensure he was held accountable for his attempt to intimidate public officials and create chaos.”

Calvert pleaded guilty in August to setting the bomb off, which did not cause any injuries and resulted in minor property damage. The bomb was built to contain nails and screws as shrapnel. 

It was found that, prior to detonating the bomb, Calvert placed stickers referring to Antifa on buildings in the downtown area of Montgomery, though he has claimed to have no affiliation with them.
