Small businesses in Montgomery County can now seek grants from leftover American Rescue Plan Act funds.
The Montgomery County Commission voted April 21 to participate in a federal grant program for small businesses that were affected by the COVID pandemic. Businesses must apply for the funds by June.
The county commission decided at the previous meeting to hold off on participating in the program because some commissioners felt the consulting company is being paid too much to administer the program.
The Montgomery City Council approved allocating $3 million of American Rescue Plan Act or ARPA funds to small businesses in early April.
In other business, Alpha Rho Zeta sorority was honored with a proclamation that recognized them for their work in mental health in addition to their work with Stork’s Nest.
Alpha Rho Zeta was recognized ahead of the month of May, which is Mental Health Awareness month. Wearing blue jackets, members of the sorority were presented with the proclamation.
The Montgomery County Commission meets on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 101 South Lawrence Street. Information sessions begin at 10 a.m. followed by the formal meeting.
Livestreamed meetings can be seen on the commission’s YouTube and Facebook pages.
