Maxwell lifeguard agreement

Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed recently signed what has been called a "first of its kind" agreement with Maxwell Air Force Base (AFB) for seasonal lifeguard services at the base's pool.

“Having a place for a dedicated quality of life is super important,” said Col. Shamekia Tolliver, 42d Air Base Wing commander,  in a recording of the signing on Wednesday. “And so the pool is a pinnacle part of that mission set.”

The agreement was formed through the intergovernmental support agreement, or IGSA, allowing for resource sharing and collaboration between the base and the city.

“This is a significant step forward in our continued partnership with Maxwell Air Force Base and Gunter Annex,” said Reed. “By providing lifeguard services, we are ensuring a safe and enjoyable swimming experience for service members and their families. We recognize the sacrifices they make and are committed to supporting them in any way we can.”
