A recent announcement from Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed said that housing is growing in the city with several thousand new housing units planned or currently being constructed.
The announcement said that more than 5,000 units are in the works. The addition of industries has also contributed to the population.
“Not only is our city primed for boom growth it’s already happening,” he said. “The influx of new businesses like Meta, Amazon, Manna Beverage, and the Inland Port and Hyundai expansion are expected to boost the City's population dramatically.”
New housing units have been approved across the south-eastern part of the city. A map of that can be seen here.
Exactly 5,157 are being planned or are under construction while there are 3,194 units for potential housing developments, totaling 8,351 units.
“Being that the housing units are proposed to be built we were able to calculate the population increase also, which totals a population increase of 13,218,” Director of Planning Robert Smith said.
“There are other housing developments currently under construction that we haven’t completed mapping that can be added to this that demonstrates further increases in housing that will translate into population increases also.”
The announcement said that the Department of Planning is currently at work on a map to "further illustrate" the growth being reportedly recorded.
“I’m excited about our city’s future and will share with you every new development as I can,” Reed said. “Many of the things I can show and tell you today are things we’ve worked on since I started as mayor.”
