According to WSFA, Reed is required to give three reasons for a veto but so far has not done so and has not issued a public statement.
During the Oct. 7 meeting Reed expressed support for keeping the hospital open but criticized what he called "bad management". He stressed that no money should be committed without the help of state and local sources.
“The big point here is we need enforceable agreements,” Reed stated then. “We need to understand what the terms of engagement will be. We need transparency and we need the state to step up, not just with words but with resources and policy tools that empower cities to act.”
No amount of money was approved in the resolution but was rather an agreement stating that the council would lend its hand. Jackson Hospital has requested $10 million from the city.
