The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) has been certified sensory friendly in an effort to accommodate visitors with certain conditions that make them prone to sensory issues.

A press release from the museum stated that staff have undergone training to assist those with autism, dementia, PTSD and similar conditions. This includes providing sensory bags, equipped with noise canceling headphones, fidget tools, verbal cue cards, and weighted lap pads.

"One of the major barriers for these individuals is sensitivity to over stimulation and noise, which is part of the environment in a venue like the MMFA," said the press release.

"With its new certification, the MMFA is now better prepared to assist guests with sensory sensitivities in having the most comfortable and accommodating experience possible when visiting the MMFA."

MMFA has partnered with KultureCity for an app that can be downloaded for information on sensory features.

“Our communities are what shapes our lives and to know that the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts is willing to go the extra mile to ensure that everyone, no matter their ability, is included in their community is amazing," said Uma Srivastava, Executive Director of KultureCity.

"We’re honored to partner with the MMFA to provide a truly inclusive experience for all fans and guests!”
