The National Weather Service has confirmed an EF1 tornado touched down in Hale and Perry counties early Sunday morning in a strong line of storms.

The tornado tracked along County Road 10 in Hale County near Newbern where manufactured homes were severely damaged and one destroyed around 1:50 a.m.

The tornado continued a short distance into Perry County before lifting, NWS reports, adding these details are preliminary and continue to be reviewed.

The survey team is backtracking to assess another area of damage in Sumter County that is also related to the severe thunderstorms that moved through the area on Feb.16.
