Detroit's Cade Cunningham, who has missed eight NBA games with a collapsed left lung, will miss another week before doctors re-examine him, the Pistons said on Thursday.
Cunningham's efforts have sparked the Pistons to the top of the Eastern Conference at 55-21.
"Pistons guard Cade Cunningham continues to progress in his return to play process under the supervision of physicians and Pistons medical and performance staff," the team said in a statement.
"He will be re-evaluated in one week."
That means Cunningham will miss at least four more Detroit games, against Minnesota, Philadelphia, Orlando and Milwaukee.
With only two regular-season contests remaining after that, the latest update means Cunningham will not play the minimum 65 games needed to qualify for NBA season awards such as the Most Valuable Player award.
Cunningham is averaging 24.5 points and 9.9 rebounds a game over 61 contests this season. The 24-year-old American was an All-Star for the second consecutive season.
