WEST YELLOWSTONE, Mont. – An injured snowmobiler was rescued after striking a tree on the Two Top forest service trail, 4.5 miles west of West Yellowstone.
The incident occurred on January 17, 2025, at 9:13 a.m. The West Yellowstone Police Department Dispatch received the report and quickly mobilized a response team.
Volunteers from the Gallatin County Sheriff Search and Rescue (GCSSAR) West Yellowstone detachment, Hebgen Basin Rural Fire District, U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement, Yellowstone National Park Law Enforcement, and Gallatin County Sheriff's Office Deputies all responded to the scene.
The responders determined that the most efficient way to assist was by using snowmobiles and a specialized snowmobile-towed ambulance. The injured snowmobiler was transported from the accident site to a waiting Hebgen Basin Rural Fire District ambulance for further evaluation. The patient was then taken to Bozeman Health Big Sky Medical Center for a higher level of care.
Gallatin County Sheriff Dan Springer praised the group of snowmobilers on the scene for providing accurate and reliable information.
Sheriff Springer also reminded snowmobilers to be aware of changing trail conditions and to always ride within their abilities.
