Drive My Car: Paul McCartney’s 60s driving licence, complete with fines, on sale

Paul McCartney's driver's license from the late 1960s is to go on sale - and is expected to fetch up to £1,200.

The old-style UK Driving Licence features the Beatle's signature as well as two fines for road offences committed in Coventry and Bath.

The license will be auctioned at Ewbank’s Music Memorabilia sale next month, and is expected to fetch between £800 and £1,200.

McCartney's license, in red cloth-covered board and in a red ‘Cartier International Services’ pouch, lists the musician’s name as Mr. James Paul McCartney

His address is listed as '7 Cavendish Avenue St. Johns Wood NW8' and is valid from '24 Sept 1968 until 23 Sept 1971'.

The license has Paul's signature in blue felt pen at the bottom.

Paul McCartney's driver's license is being auctioned off.

On other pages, fines from Coventry and Bath can be seen.

One, from Bath City Magistrates' Court, says that on May 11, 1969, McCartney offended by 'driving m/vehicle without due care and attention'.

The document shows he was fined £25 for the offence on September 29 that year - equivalent to around £365 now.

Another page shows a speeding fine from Coventry, relating to July 1968.

It shows he was convicted of driving 'a motor vehicle on a restricted road at a speed exceeding 40mph' at Coventry City Magistrates Court in February 1969.

He was fined £10 for the offence - around £145 today.

The licence will be sold at Ewbank's Music Memorabilia auction on November 13.

The sale also includes an original vinyl copy of Led Zeppelin's first album, which is expected to fetch as much as £800.
