Otto Hunter has announced he is running for the Ward 2 seat on the Selma City Council.

Hunter’s platform calls for building a “safer community” by working with the mayor and law enforcement. Hunter said he will work with the mayor to hire more police officers, and will advocate for more police presence in the ward. He said he will also install more surveillance cameras and streetlights.

Hunter pledged to repave streets, reduce litter and improve garbage pickup punctuality.

He said he will meet with citizens quarterly, and he will create more recreation opportunities for youth, and more health and wellness initiatives for seniors. He said he will also push for an annual pay increase for city workers.

Official candidate qualification begins June 10 and ends June 24. The Selma city election will be Aug. 26.
