A Pike County man has been convicted of rape in the first degree after a two-day trial, said an announcement from County District Attorney James Tarbox.

According to the announcement, the state was represented by Assistant District Attorney Ternisha Jones during the trial against Charles Lamont Boyd, Jr., who was accused of raping his niece in October 2023.

The announcement stated that Boyd, during a visit to his niece's house, asked to use the bathroom. When he finished he reportedly attacked her and raped her in her mother's bedroom.

“I am so thankful for the courage of our victim to tell her friend about this attack and then to go through this entire process of being interviewed, working with law enforcement, and now testifying at trial," said Jones. "Thanks to her standing up and telling the truth about what happened to her on that day in October 2023, a dangerous man will now go to prison.”

Sentencing has been scheduled for June 19.

“I am also grateful for the courage and bravery of our victim to navigate this process and take the witness stand to testify against her uncle," he said. "I appreciate the work of ADA Jones and her dedication to seek justice on behalf of our victim. Defendant Boyd is a convicted felon who has previously been convicted of Manslaughter in another county. I hope that the court will now impose a sentence in this case that will keep him behind bars where he belongs.”

Tarbox thanked case agent Captain Troy Johnson of the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, and the Pike Regional Child Advocacy Center for their assistance.
