Tornado damage in Gallion

Damage from a possible tornado in Gallion on Friday.

A possible tornado has caused damage to homes and property in Gallion off Highway 80 on Friday afternoon.

Weatherman James Spann with Alabama Weather Network reported Gallion was one of three locations in Alabama to have “brief tornado touchdowns” in the severe storms passing through the state Friday.

No injuries have been reported.

Gallion resident Dewayne Charleston posted a video on Facebook of damage to his property by the small tornado, showing pontoons ripped from his boat and scattered in the yard. He also lost an exercise shed and his box truck was turned on its side. “Thanks be to God that no one got hurt,” he said. He also showed a neighbor on a side-by-side there to help, adding, “Thank God for good neighbors.”

The National Weather Service out of Birmingham posted a warning at 9:55 a.m. that a few of the thunderstorm cells on Friday have “shown weak and short-lived rotation.”

Spann said brief tornados were likely seen in Gallion, eastern Tuscaloosa near Vance and in the Holly Pond area of Cullman. He added more scattered showers and storms are expected statewide throughout Memorial Day weekend, including Saturday and Sunday, “but they won't be as numerous as the ones we experienced today.”
