Joseph I. Thompson, a retired captain of the Montgomery Fire/Rescue department, has passed away at the age of 85-years-old.Â
An announcement on Montgomery Fire/Rescue's social media said that Thompson died on Sunday, March 24.Â
He joined the department in 1967 and was promoted to lieutenant in 1976 before being promoted to captain in 1980. He was a member of the department until his retirement in 1988.Â
"Please accept MFR’s heartfelt condolences as words cannot express our deep sorrow for the family’s loss and may Captain Thompson’s legacy live on through the courage and compassion of those who loved him," said a post on Facebook.Â
Visitation will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on March 29 from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. followed by a memorial service for family only.Â
