Rural Studio in Hale County is celebrating 30 years and is set to launch two new projects, as well as a fundraising effort.

Rural Studio describes itself as a "off-campus design-build program" that is part of the of the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture of Auburn University.

It was founded in 1993 by D.K. Ruth and Samuel Mockbee and is directed by Andrew Freear.

"The Studio is rooted in building relationships and earning trust from our neighbors and friends in the community," said an article on their website.

"Immersing ourselves in West Alabama has afforded our students the opportunity to apply their skills as designers, while also learning about nature, history, culture, economy, architecture, agriculture, and community in this unique educational landscape."

One project that Rural Studio is set to launch is a new home with a cross laminated structural core and the other being the second phase of the Rural Studio Fabrication Pavilion.

Additionally they will be completing several ongoing projects:  Patriece’s Home, C.H.O.I.C.E. House, Rosie’s Home, 18×18 House, and the Rural Studio Bathhouse.

To continue its efforts Rural Studio has launched a fundraiser with the goal of collecting $30,000 over five years or $6,000 per year.

More information about the fundraiser can be found here.
