Selma City Schools has announced its 2022-2023 District Teachers of the Year.

Denisha Streeter was selected as the elementary level Teacher of the Year. She teaches sixth grade at Saints Virtual Academy.

Dr. Colin McConarty, who teaches eighth grade world history at R.B. Hudson Academy, was selected as the secondary level Teacher of the Year.

In a press release Streeter said, “God is AMAZING! The favor that He shows me through my teaching gift is spilling over into the lives of my scholars! The work that I do is rewarding in itself; but honestly, the last couple of years of "pandemic teaching" have been extremely challenging!"

"I have had to push harder, work smarter, and most importantly...I've had to love on my students even more and more intentionally. With that said, it is truly an honor to be selected as Selma City Schools' Elementary Teacher of the Year! I represent all of the dynamic Selma City Educators who are making this teaching and learning thing happen every day for our scholars!

"Rest assured that our Selma City Core Values will accompany me even on the state level: Students First, Excellence, Teamwork, Joy, Equity, and Integrity. I am grateful for this opportunity to represent excellence in the classroom!”

McConarty said, “Being selected as Selma City’s Secondary Teacher of the Year is a humbling honor. I love my job, and I am so happy to be here. For me, it’s all about the people—the beautiful children I greet every day, the amazing team I work with at Hudson, and the wonderful people of the city of Selma."

"In accepting this honor, I do it on behalf of a great cloud of witnesses, recognizing that I am reaping the fruits of the hard work sown by those around me and those who have gone before me.”
