A man from Selma was arrested on several charges related to fleeing and marijuana trafficking after leading a police officer on a high speed chase in Troup County in West Point, Georgia.

According to the Valley Times-News Troup County Sheriff's Office Captain Nathan Taylor stopped a car for following too closely. Inside was Henry Murphy Jr. 35, from Selma.

Taylor noticed a smell coming from inside the car. Suspecting narcotics he asked Murphy to step out. When he was outside Murphy reportedly resisted when Taylor tried to detain him.

Even though Taylor tasered him Murphy was still able to get back inside and drove away. A high speed chase ensued before Murphy was said to have jumped out of the car while it was still moving, causing it to crash.

Murphy fled on foot while Taylor used his K-9 unit to catch him. He was then able to put him into handcuffs and was later transported to a hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Afterwards police searched the car and reportedly found approximately 10 pounds of marijuana, as well as money that allegedly came from drug sales.

In addition to following to closely, Murphy has been charged with fleeing/attempted to elude, trafficking marijuana and obstruction of an officer.
