A man from Selma has been sentenced for his role as a getaway driver during the robbery of a bank in Marion that took place in 2017.

Stanley Young, 32, was sentenced to 17 years for the crime, according to a statement from U.S. Attorney Richard W. Moore.

Young, who also goes by aliases "New York" and "Shoota" will have to undergo five years of supervised release, as well as pay $47,423 in restitution, and pay a $200 mandatory special assessment.

Moore's statement detailed the crime, saying that Young acted with two other accomplices in the armed robbery of the federally insured West Alabama Bank and Trust in Marion.

The accomplices, Jabriel Bell and Fortune Hoppins, are said to have gone inside the bank and stolen $46,923 while Young drove the getaway car, which was burned after the robbery and another one was acquired to drive from Marion to Selma.

In November of 2016, Young and Hoppins were arrested by U.S. Marshals Service in Bridgeport, Connecticut on warrants from Perry County in Alabama. Young was found with a backpack containing a stolen and loaded Glock Model 17 9mm pistol.

Hoppins and Bell were later sentenced to 10 years each for the robbery.

In a federal case Young pleaded guilty to a burglary committed with Hoppins and Bell in which more than 50 guns were stolen from a store in Safford. He was sentenced 60 months in this case.

Additionally, Young is said to have tampered with witnesses by offering payment to assault one and convincing another to give false testimonies about him in the trials.

The case was investigated by the FBI, the Fourth Judicial Drug Task Force, the Perry County Sheriff’s Office, the Marion Police Department, the Selma Police Department, and the Bridgeport, Connecticut Police Department.
