Jamon Newberry has an arrest warrant out in a shooting death Saturday.

Selma police have an arrest warrant out for a person of interest in the murder of a Selma man on Dec. 27.

Jamon Newberry has a warrant for his arrest for murder and shooting into a vehicle in the death of Jaquawn Tyus, who died while in route to the hospital after getting shot at 3 a.m. in the 600 block of Ravenwood Drive.

According to Selma police in a statement, detectives are “working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident” and that it appears to be an isolated event and no ongoing threat to the public.

"This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the victim's family and loved ones,” Police Chief Kenta Fulford said in a statement. "Our department is committed to conducting a thorough and timely investigation and hold Mr. Newberry accountable."

The Selma Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or whohas information to call 334-876-1259. Anonymous tips may be submitted through CrimeStoppers at 334-215-STOP.
