Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr. has designated local teacher Sherry Jackson to be the ceremonial and promotional ambassador to the Republic of Senegal for the Fulbright Teacher Exchanges Award during the 2024-2025 academic year.
Jackson is a teacher at Clarke High School. She is an alumna of Selma Early College High School and is affiliated with the Selma High School Class of 2010.
A press release from the mayor's office said that Jackson will engage in "meaningful cultural and educational" exchange during her stay in Senegal, which is a nation located in West Africa.
“As Sherry represents the United States through the Fulbright program, she will also represent the rich history, culture, and spirit of Selma,” said Perkins in the release. “Her journey is not only a personal and professional milestone but also a symbol of the global reach and impact of our city’s educators.”
