Rep. Terri Sewell shared photos of Selma invitees at the State of the Union address Thursday night in Washington DC.

Sewell invited three foot soldiers who were involved in the Selma to Montgomery marches to the 2024 State of the Union address in honor of the 59th anniversary of Bloody Sunday.

They are Sheyann Webb-Christburg, a native of the historic Selma who is known as Martin Luther King Jr.’s "Smallest Freedom Fighter" because of her involvement at only eight years old. Bennie Lee Tucker, a civil rights activist and worked closely with King as his bodyguard. And JoAnne Bland, a young foot soldier who is now owner and operator of Journeys for the Soul, a touring agency that specializes in Civil Rights tours in Selma.
