Southside Panthers beat Thomasville to advance to second round of Class 3A tournament

Southside v Thomasville

The Southside High School Panthers hosted the Thomasville High School Tigers in the first round of the Class 3A Area 4 Tournament.

Southside tied with Wilcox for first place and lost the coin toss to host the area championship.

The Panthers came out on a mission, as they quickly go off to a 12-0 run in the first quarter. The Panthers never let up the gas, and the Tigers were never able to recover. The Panthers got the 94-29 victory over the Tigers to advance to the area championship.

D. Surles led the Panthers in scoring with 17 points. K. Wilson finished with 16 points. L. Milhouse added 13 points and A. Towns finished with 11 points. C. Hosea led the Tigers in scoring with 9 points.

The Panthers head coach, Cedric Brown, stated, “I’m extremely proud of how we came out. The message before we came out was 'Set the tone!' Indeed they came out with that in both the first and third quarter. Defensively we were where we needed to be all night. We talked about this time of year, staying focused and playing our best ball each and every night. We want our level of play to rise and elevate the remainder of the season.”

The Southside Panthers will play the Wilcox Jaguars for the Class 3A area 4 championship on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. at Wilcox Central High School.
