Jude Washington brings over three decades of dedicated law enforcement experience to his candidacy for Sheriff of Jefferson County. His journey began in 1988 with the Montgomery Police Department, where he laid the groundwork for a career committed to public safety and community service.Â
In 1989, Jude enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving as a combat medic/Corpsman with the United States Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. A combat veteran, he earned several commendations for his service before being honorably discharged in 1993 due to injuries sustained during his deployment.
Following his military service, Jude joined the Alabama Department of Corrections, where he worked as a corrections officer at the William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility. His commitment to rehabilitation and security led him to the Jefferson County Jail in 1995, where he served as a medic, providing crucial medical care to inmates and staff.
In 1998, Jude transitioned to a Deputy Sheriff role, spending four years in the jail before moving to the patrol division, where he honed his skills in community policing for five years. In 2006, he became a member of the Jefferson County Vice/Narcotics Division, conducting undercover operations aimed at combating drug-related crimes throughout the county.
Jude’s dedication to law enforcement extended into collaborative efforts with federal agencies; he joined the Birmingham FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force in 1997. In this capacity, he led large-scale operations addressing drug trafficking, human trafficking, and child exploitation cases, etc. across the southeastern United States, all while supervising the Jefferson County Narcotics Division.
Currently, Jude serves as a Special Investigator for the Alabama Department of Labor, focusing on fraud, identity theft, and embezzlement cases. His extensive background equips him with the experience and insight needed to address the challenges facing Jefferson County.
Residing in the McCalla area with his wife, Lynneice Washington, the district attorney for the Bessemer division of Jefferson County, Jude is deeply rooted in his community. Together, they are proud parents of four college-educated children who are all gainfully employed, reflecting Jude’s commitment to education and community values.
As he campaigns for Sheriff, Jude Washington is committed to enhancing public safety, fostering community relationships, addressing public corruption and ensuring that Jefferson County remains a safe and vibrant place for all its residents.
