The Sumter County Recreation Authority Park in Livingston has received a $261,223 grant from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs.

The grant comes from the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund to upgrade the park, which includes resurfacing basketball courts.

“I am pleased to approve this transformational grant to modernize the Sumter County Recreational Authority Park which has not been updated in nearly a half century,” said Gov. Kay Ivey. “This vital project is the beginning of much-needed upgrades to a recreational area that the people of Livingston and Sumter County will take pride in.”

Other upgrades include improving the access road, installing underground utility lines, and constructing sidewalks and a parking area. Several buildings will also be renovated and reused.

“I commend local leaders for their efforts and commitment to revive this park which has the potential to become a major focal point in the city,” said ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell. “ADECA is pleased to join Gov. Ivey in support of these renovations.”
