Akron Post Office

Rep. Terri Sewell is speaking out after an announcement that the town of Akron's post office in Hale County will close on Oct. 31.

According to WBRC the post office in Moundville will begin handling mail.

Sewell criticized the decision by the U.S. Post Service, calling it "unacceptable" and demanded that it be reopened.

"I am demanding that USPS immediately reopen this facility and ensure every absentee ballot is delivered on time," she said. "Akron residents deserve access to their mail, and their right to vote must be protected!"

There does not appear to be an official reason released for why the post office will close.

A change.org petition has been created in an effort to keep it open.
