The 30th Annual Walk for Healthy Living Walk-A-Thon is scheduled for Sept. 27 at the Valley Creek Park, said an announcement from the Selma (AL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.

This year's theme is “Three Decades Strong: Connecting Hearts, Lifting Lives, Shaping Futures”.

“As we celebrate three decades of advocating for healthier lifestyles, we encourage everyone to participate—regardless of age or fitness level,” said Phenicia Nunn, Selma Chapter Walk-A-Thon Chair. “Consistent physical activity, such as moderate-paced walking for 30 minutes or more several days a week, may lead to substantial benefits for physical fitness, cognitive function, and mood.”

The event involves more than 299 Links chapters across the United States, Nassau in the Bahamas, and London, England.

It is part of The Links' Heartlinks program that seeks to educate the public about cardiovascular disease and the benefits of walking. Featured are  educational and health stations, a voter registration drive, food distribution, and music.

Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. followed by the walk at 9 a.m.

“As the Walk-A-Thon unfolds, the collective spirit of the community is celebrated, reinforcing the importance of unity in achieving long-term health goals and supporting educational initiatives that benefit individuals of all ages,” said Dr. Patricia Kendrick Robinson, President, Selma (AL) Chapter.
