Col. Harry Stewart Jr. (ret), who made his mark was one of the Tuskegee Airmen in World War Two, has died at the age of 100.Â
According to the National WWII Museum, Stewart was a decorated pilot who was born in Newport News, VA, and grew up in Queens, NY. He died at his home in Bloomfield Hills, MI, on Sunday, Feb. 2.Â
Stewart was sent to Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama in April 1943 for flight training before being assigned to the 302nd Fighter Squadron, 332nd Fighter Group, Fifteenth Air Force, in Italy.
He flew in 43 combat missions in a North American P-51 Mustang fighter aircraft. After the war ended he remained on active duty and was a decorated veteran who advanced high in the ranks of the military.
Stewart was among the last of the Tuskegee Airmen before his passing.Â
