Tuskegee Repertory Theatre will present a production of "Remembering Sammy" about the first black student that was killed during the Civil Rights Movement on Jan. 12-14.Â
"'Remembering Sammy’ tells the true story of the life and work of Sammy Younge, Jr., voting rights advocate, and the first college student killed in the Civil Rights movement," said an announcement by the Black Belt Community Foundation online.
"He was shot to death in downtown Tuskegee, Al. The play was created using interviews conducted by the playwright, Tuskegee Repertory Theatre, Director Dyann Robinson, of 5 of his co-activist friends after his death."
Music was composed by Bill Perry.Â
The play will be presented on Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. and on Jan. 13 and 14 at 2 p.m. at the Jessie Clinton Arts Centre on 201 South Main Street in Tuskegee.Â
