Jaquon Jones Uniontown shot

15 year old Jaquon Jones of Uniontown, a student and football player at R.C.Hatch was injured in a shooting while visiting family the evening of July 14.

An R.C. Hatch football player was shot in a reported shootout in a housing complex in Uniontown Friday night.

The shooting took place around 5 p.m., at Meadows 2 housing complex in Uniontown.  

Jaquon Jones, 15, of Uniontown was visiting family when he was shot in the back, according to the family. Jones is a student and football player at Robert C. Hatch High School. Jones was transported by a personal vehicle to Whitfield Regional Hospital in Demopolis and later transported to Birmingham to undergo surgery. 

Justina Jones, his mother, said “I wish these kids would put down the guns.  And I wish the city would do something about these senseless shootings.” 

At this time, police say they have leads but are asking for more witnesses to come forward. Call the Police Department at 334-581-5144 or City Hall at 334-628-2011.

According to the Uniontown All Call System, the city is now under a curfew. The text of the message was from Police Chief Pamela Wilson and read: “Important announcement: a citywide curfew will be implemented starting at 10 PM until further notice. No loitering or hanging out during this time additionally there will be drivers license checks along with verification of insurance and registration. All entertainment establishments must comply with the curfew regulations as well.”

Within the last few weeks, there have been a large number of shootings in the area. Uniontown is now under new leadership and has a new Mayor and Police chief. 

Unfortunately, some are concerned citizens are taking advantage of what they say is a lack of law enforcement during this transitional time. Many other citizens have expressed concern over what they say is an outbreak of violence and fear these incidents will continue if law enforcement does not increase.
