The co-captain of the Harriott II riverboat in Montgomery has had a complaint filed against him months after a brawl involving multiple people broke out during an event in August.

According to WSFA, the co-captain, Dameion Pickett, was charged with third degree assault following a complaint filed by Zachary Shipman, who was involved in the fight.

Shipman reportedly alleges that Pickett hit him in the face when they were arguing over a docking spot during the event. Pickett had said that he was attacked first prior to the new complaint.

Shipman and others were arrested and charged with assault. He has pleaded not guilty while Pickett has not entered a plea so far.

Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed released a statement saying the city has not filed charges against Picket. The statement said: “The City of Montgomery and Montgomery Police Department have been made aware that one of the individuals involved in the incident at Montgomery Riverfront Park on August 5, 2023, has filed charges against Harriet II co-captain Dameion Pickett. Neither the City nor the Montgomery Police Department filed these charges. The Montgomery Police Department’s investigation only lists Mr. Pickett as a victim.”
