The Alabama Department of Environmental Management announced July 17 that it has made $743,505 available to the CWM Water Authority to purchase new water meters.
Customers of the water authority that serves Clarke, Wilcox and Monroe counties will receive new water meters thanks to financial assistance from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management, ADEM announced Friday.
ADEM announced it has made $743,505 in financial assistance available to the CWM Water Authority utilizing funds from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Bipartisan Infrastructure Loan program.
CWM Water Authority proposes to use the money to upgrade water meters, according to the ADEM announcement.
“The proposed project would replace existing manual read meters with new Automatic Meter Read (AMR) water meters for all customers served by CWM Water Authority,” the announcement states. “The proposed project will reduce unaccounted water and (operating and maintenance) costs, increase accuracy of billing operations and improve safety for the water system staff.”
ADEM said it has determined the project will not require environmental review. “However, this decision may be reconsidered if significant adverse information concerning the potential environmental impacts of the project is discovered,” ADEM said in its announcement.
Comments relative to this project should be submitted in writing to Mrs. Kelly Bibb, SRF Section, Permits & Services Division, Alabama Department of Environmental Management, P.O. Box 301463, Montgomery, Alabama 36130, no later than Aug. 18.
CWM Water Authority, based in Dickinson in Clarke County, serves 1,749 people, according to EWG.org.
