A $13.7 million project will upgrade an existing water system to improve service to almost 10,000 Wilcox County residents and expand it to over a hundred families that have not had water service.

Almost 10,000 rural Wilcox County residents will benefit from a $13.6 million water project that is now underway.

The project will upgrade an existing water system and expand it to over a hundred families that have not had water service, according to the WAKA Channel 8 newsroom.

The project includes 37 miles of water mains, new automated radio read meters and repairs to tanks.

The project is being financed through a $3.7 million dollar loan and a $9.8 million grant — under the Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program.
